Vicksburg Convention Center on track for record year

As the Vicksburg Convention Center (VCC) team wraps up the fiscal year the end of September, we are on track to have the lowest net operating deficit in the history of the Center (est. 1997).  How is that for an opening sentence?  To say that is good news would be an understatement!

To name some of the accomplishments would include cutting expenses, forming new and renewed partnerships, community awareness of the center through many outlets, new and improved website, constant communication with the city, securing multi-year contracts, production of a community event that will be talked about for years to come, and many other things that have contributed to this exciting fiscal year.

With the mission statement that was put in place at the beginning of the year…Going beyond your expectations…we have strived to do just that.  The Convention Center’s success is continuing to trend upward for FY2014-2015.  Conventions alone are forecasted to generate $4.5 million in direct spending for the City of Vicksburg. The economic impact of that direct spend is $7.6 million for the City of Vicksburg. The FY 2014-2015 indicates a good year ahead for the Convention Center with increases in almost all categories.

What is direct spending? We define direct spending, in the tourism industry as any money that goes directly from a tourists or attendees pocket into the local economy.
What is economic impact? Economic impact is the direct spend number multiplied by the dollar spending again, in our community, on a very low average of 1.7 times. We use very, very conservative numbers.

As the first of FY 2014-2015 approaches, you will see multi-day conferences such the Mississippi Ag/Arkansas Ag Company, Mississippi Library Association, NCESS  Exam, National Retriever Championship.  A sample of single day events include the Warren County Whitetails Unlimited Banquet, Alcorn State University/Back to the Yard, Dance Teachers United, V105 Caroling Contest, Breakfast with Santa along with many wedding receptions and holiday parties.  All that is just til the end of 2014, then 2015 is just around the corner.

How does this happen?  It is through the many tourism partners, VenuWorks, VCC team members, City of Vicksburg elected officials, and our Convention and Visitors Bureau. Without all of us working as a team, this moment in history would not be possible!
