With a heavy heart we share the new that we lost one of our employees over the weekend. Marcus Smith, who was part of our team at the Chesapeake Conference Center, passed away over the weekend in a motorcycle accident. The following is an email that Troy Thorn, the Executive Director for the Chesapeake Conference Center, shared with his staff over the weekend:
Chesapeake Family we’ve lost one of the “Good Dudes” you come across in life today. A motorcycle accident has left me with a painful void and utter disbelief.
Although the newest member to our family, Marcus fit in like he’d been here from the beginning. I took this photo of Marcus late Friday afternoon and it captures everything I’ll remember him for. A cool demeanor, a generous smile, lightheartedness and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. You never know when your last conversation with someone will be . . . I’m glad mine was a good one!!!
I miss Marcus already and that’s okay. His sudden passing is fresh and I am certain we will experience a variety of emotions as we work through this tragedy as a unit. In coming days we must support one another as we offer support to his loved ones.
This is a Father’s Day I’ll certainly never forget, as I head home to hug my kids a little tighter (despite their adolescent protest). Let’s keep Marcus’ children lifted up in our thoughts, prayers and deeds.
I know everyone is anxious for information and we will make that available to you once we visit with his family and process this situation.
