Ames Company Backs Tony Winners on Broadway
VenuWorks founder and president Steve Peters attended the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall Sunday night with his wife Randi hoping that the three Broadway shows the company backed this season would win their share of Tony Awards. You Can’t Take It with You, staring James Earl Jones, had five nominations including Best Revival of a Play. Hand to God, a dark new comedy, had five nominations including Best Play. And the big new musical, Something Rotten, had 10 nominations, including Best Musical.
By the end of the night, Annaleigh Ashford had won a Tony for Best Featured Actress in You Can’t Take It with You. Christian Borle won Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance as William Shakespeare in Something Rotten. “We are so proud that Ms. Ashford and Mr. Borle were recognized for their outstanding performances,” said Peters. “They are truly amazing actors.”
The Tony’s capped an award season in which You Can’t Take It With You had already received The Outer Critics Circle Award and The Drama Club Award for Best Revival of a Play. VenuWorks was a co-producer of the show.
“Producing for the Broadway stage is exciting, but it is also extremely challenging,” said Peters. “We work with a dozen theaters in communities from Minneapolis to Houston. The work we do on Broadway pays off on the programming we can bring to those theatres. For example, we just had a very successful week long run of Jersey Boys at the Adler Theatre in Davenport, which we partnered with Jam Theatricals, which is one of our Broadway partners. It is definitely a business built on relationships.”
VenuWorks provides services and solutions for management, programming, marketing, dining, ticketing, and operations to over 50 venues, including theaters, arenas, stadiums, amphitheaters and convention centers in twelve states.
